U.S. Lawmakers Write to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Urging the Donald Trump Administration to Secure the Release of U.S. Student Detained by Israel
More than 40 U.S. members of Congress have written to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, calling on the Donald Trump administration to take action to secure the release of 20-year-old U.S. citizen Sama Safi, who has been detained by the Israeli military since June of this year. The lawmakers warned on Tuesday that the Palestinian-American student's health has deteriorated "under harsh conditions" during her detention in Israel. The Israeli military previously stated that Safi was detained for "engaging in hostile terrorist activities and other terrorism-related activities."
