U.S. and Russia Intensify Competition for Dominance in India's Growing Energy Market
India, the world's third-largest energy market, is becoming a key battleground as the U.S. and Russia vie for market share. Russia has become India's largest crude supplier, accounting for over 50% of oil imports in June and July, and nearly 43% in August. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Monday that Russia is expanding its exports to India. Meanwhile, the U.S. has emerged as India's top supplier of LPG and a significant LNG provider, with U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor noting a 60% rise in LPG and LNG supplies to India over the last year. The U.S. is also pushing India to replace Russian crude with Venezuelan oil, with Venezuelan crude imports rising to 383,000 barrels per day in August. A new Russia Sanctions bill, proposing up to a 100% levy on countries buying Russian energy, is set to move to the U.S. House for final approval in September.
