SoftBank is in talks to acquire a majority stake in humanoid robot developer 1X Technologies, valuing the deal at approximately $6 billion, according to sources familiar with the matter at The Information. Negotiations are ongoing, and terms could change. If the deal goes through, it would be SoftBank's most substantial bet in the humanoid robotics sector to date and would provide 1X with ample funding to advance the research, development, and commercialization of its soft robots for home environments. SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son has explicitly stated that "physical AI is SoftBank's next frontier." Previously, OpenAI had also discussed a potential acquisition with 1X but ultimately did not proceed.
