US goods-trade deficit widened 17.2% to $118.8B in July, far exceeding forecasts and largest since March 2025
The US goods-trade deficit expanded to $118.8 billion in July, significantly higher than the $100.5 billion forecast and the largest deficit recorded since March 2025. Imports surged 3.7%, driven by the biggest increase in capital-goods shipments since 1993, including computers and semiconductors. Exports, however, fell 2.9%, which could further drag on Q3 GDP growth.
