The United States and Israel's coordinated military campaign against Iran, launched on February 28, has shifted back to economic pressure after six months. On August 24, the US Treasury initiated Operation Economic Outcast, an expanded campaign to sever Iran's remaining financial links with the outside world. Iran's oil exports have fallen from nearly 1.8 million barrels a day before the war to below half a million, while inflation is approaching 90%, with food prices more than double a year ago. The Strait of Hormuz, closed by Iran in retaliation on February 28, has not reopened.
