European Central Bank (ECB) Executive Board member Isabel Schnabel stated at the Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium that central banks should embrace Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) and bring central bank money "on-chain." She emphasized that central bank money is crucial for the development of tokenized finance and superior to well-designed stablecoins. Schnabel pointed out that bringing central bank money on-chain would not only solidify its role as a settlement basis but also leverage DLT's programmability to modernize monetary policy implementation, collateral management, and liquidity provision, thereby promoting financial stability.
