Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has been without power for over a week, with the IAEA warning it is now relying on emergency diesel generators for the 27th time.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) warned on Saturday that Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) in the southeast has been without external power for over a week and is currently relying on emergency diesel generators. This marks the 27th time the plant has experienced an interruption of external power since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The IAEA stated that the plant needs electricity to cool its six non-operating reactors, and there is only a 10-day supply of diesel fuel on site. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi emphasized the critical importance of the diesel supply and said the agency is attempting to negotiate a local ceasefire to repair the power lines.
