As of last Friday, the Bloomberg Agriculture Spot Index, which tracks 10 major agricultural commodities, had risen by over 13% in August. Wheat prices surged to a three-year high due to disruptions in Black Sea port exports following attacks. Sugar and cocoa prices also climbed by approximately 20%, boosted by the strengthening El Niño phenomenon. The market is concerned that this round of price increases, coupled with higher energy and transportation costs driven by the Middle East conflict, will lead to further rises in the prices of everyday food items such as bread, meat, and dairy products.
