The Securities and Exchange Commission has intensified its scrutiny of firms operating special purpose vehicles (SPVs) that claim to offer exposure to private company investments. SEC examiners are now requiring registered investment advisers to provide evidence that their SPVs actually own or have access to the private company shares they advertise.
