Duolingo and ETS suspend language tests for Iranians following new US sanctions targeting education
Duolingo and ETS have suspended language tests for Iranians, effective September 1 for Duolingo, in compliance with new US sanctions. The US Treasury Department's August 24 action expanded secondary sanctions to several sectors, including technology, and indefinitely suspended education-related general licenses. Duolingo will no longer offer its English Test to individuals testing in Iran or using Iranian government-issued identification, while ETS has paused TOEFL and GRE exams in Iran.
