Micron's largest production base in Taiwan faces strike threat as workers demand one-time bonus equivalent to 83 months' salary.
Nearly 10,000 workers at Micron Technology's factories in Taoyuan and Taichung, Taiwan, are pushing for strike action after the company saw a surge in profits due to soaring AI memory demand. The union is demanding a one-time bonus equivalent to 83 months' salary and 15% of operating profit to be allocated to quarterly employee bonuses starting from fiscal year 2027. Micron stated that this year's performance bonuses are the highest in the company's history. Taiwan is Micron's largest global manufacturing base, producing DRAM and high-bandwidth memory, and any prolonged production disruption could exacerbate already constrained memory supplies, posing a potential risk to the AI industry.
