Trump Escalates Trade War with Canada, Stating 'I Don't Want Canadian Anything' and Plans 50% Tariffs on Autos and Parts from Jan. 1
Former President Donald Trump dramatically escalated political pressure against Canada, stating on Truth Social on Sunday that he doesn't want "Canadian cars, Canadian parts, I don't want Canadian anything," accusing Canada of "ripping us off for decades." He also called on Canadian companies in the U.S. to relocate south of the border immediately to avoid tariffs. This follows the collapse of trade negotiations and Trump's imposition of new 50% tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian imports on August 22, to which Canada responded with retaliatory tariffs. Trump further announced another 50% tariff on Canadian autos and parts beginning January 1.
