UN World Food Programme Halves Food Aid for Occupied West Bank, Cutting Support for 400,000 to 200,000 Due to Funding Shortfall
The UN agency stated on Tuesday that critical financing constraints, exacerbated by a sharp cut in Western donations led by the United States, have forced it to reduce its assistance. This month, food assistance in the West Bank, provided as cash, vouchers, food, livelihood programs, and nutritional services, will be cut. WFP operations in Gaza are also affected, with cash assistance to approximately 75,000 families already reduced, and the cash value of assistance for 375,000 people in the enclave cut by 40% in July. The WFP estimates it needs an additional $386 million over the next six months to serve about two million food-insecure people across Gaza and the West Bank.
