Strategy CEO Phong Le defends selling Bitcoin at $60,000-$65,000 before buying at $80,000+, calling it the 'right trade' driven by capital costs, not price speculation.
Strategy CEO Phong Le stated in a Bloomberg TV interview on Tuesday that the company's decision to sell roughly 7,000 Bitcoin at $60,000-$65,000 before resuming purchases around $80,000 was aimed at funding Stretch dividends, reducing net debt from approximately $7 billion to zero, and building $7 billion in cash reserves. The company bought 4,603 BTC for about $369.7 million at an average price of $80,318 last week, bringing its total holdings to 845,050 BTC, worth roughly $65 billion. Le noted Strategy remains a "net accumulator" with a "two-way strategy" to sell Bitcoin when needed for obligations, and could continue buying at higher prices if capital economics remain attractive. Strategy shares closed down 6.1% on Tuesday, while Bitcoin was approaching $77,000 early Wednesday.
