Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Tuesday that Yerevan's bid to join the European Union could disrupt trade with Moscow, as relations between the two countries have reached historic lows. Putin stated that Moscow needs clarity on Armenia's EU aspirations to decide on the future of bilateral trade, adding that joining the EU would be tantamount to declaring a break from the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). Pashinyan, however, stressed that Armenia has not violated any obligations to Russia and does not intend to leave the EEU through its EU accession process. Bilateral trade between Russia and Armenia reached $2.5 billion in the first half of this year.
