U.S. President highlights recovery efforts, noting 48.4 million Americans suffer from addiction
The President issued a message for National Recovery Month, celebrating over 23 million Americans who have found a path to recovery and renewing commitment to supporting those still struggling. The administration has established the Great American Recovery Initiative, signed an Executive Order on Ending Crime and Disorder on America’s Streets, directed the FDA to prioritize non-opioid options for chronic pain, and signed the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act. Additionally, the HALT Fentanyl Act was signed into law, major international drug cartels were designated as foreign terrorist organizations, and border security was enhanced to combat fentanyl trafficking. Last year, 69,973 Americans died from overdose.
