U.S. Federal Judge Lee Rudofsky in Arkansas on Wednesday, September 2, rejected a request from energy company Entergy Arkansas to block the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette from publishing details of confidential documents it obtained and to remove already published information. Entergy Arkansas claimed the documents contained "trade secrets" and "highly sensitive protected information" related to the company's facilities to power Google's $4 billion data center being built locally. The judge stated that the First Amendment grants freedom of the press, and blocking publication requires "very extreme circumstances." Previously, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported that Google would pay Entergy Arkansas $526 million for the construction of a solar facility to support its West Memphis data center, with the total facility cost being $1.6 billion.
