Uber announced it is closing its ride-hailing operations in Nigeria and Uganda, effective immediately, after a thorough business review. The company began operating in Nigeria in 2014 and Uganda in 2016. Drivers in Nigeria have long complained about low prices and high commission charges amid rising fuel costs and competition. This decision follows Uber's recent announcement of a 10% global workforce reduction and previous exits from Ivory Coast and Tanzania. Uber will now only operate in Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa on the African continent.
