Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) has requested Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to prepay 25 trillion Korean Won in electricity fees to address a funding shortfall for grid expansion.
Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) has proposed to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix that they prepay a combined 25 trillion Korean won (approximately $18.1 billion) in electricity bills to cover their power needs for the next five years. This initiative aims to raise funds for the construction of transmission networks for semiconductor industrial clusters in the Yongin and Honam regions and to reduce the volume of bond issuance. KEPCO stated that it has approached large electricity users, but corporate willingness to participate, interest rate levels, and the scale and duration of prepayments have not yet been finalized.
