Weeks-long wildfires in Indonesia, exacerbated by a 'super' El Niño, have caused a toxic haze to spread across parts of Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines. Millions have been exposed to the smog, with over 12,000 children suffering respiratory issues. Pollution levels in some areas have exceeded World Health Organization recommended levels by more than 15 times. Indonesia's Health Ministry recorded over 50,000 cases of respiratory infections linked to the fires between July and August. The country's forestry minister stated earlier this week that the battle to extinguish the wildfires is entering a critical phase, with September being the peak of El Niño.
