Uber Technologies (UBER) announced on September 2nd that it would lay off approximately 3,300 employees globally, representing about 10% of its total global workforce, and cut 20% of its management layers. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi stated that the company had accumulated "more layers, more coordination, and more diffused ownership." The company is reallocating spending to its ride-hailing, delivery, and robotaxi businesses, having committed over $10 billion to robotaxi partners, including deploying up to 50,000 autonomous vehicles in partnership with Rivian and Nvidia. Additionally, Uber is moving forward with its $15 billion acquisition of Delivery Hero.
