The Seattle Times and Newsday Sue OpenAI and Microsoft, Alleging Use of News Content to Train AI
The Seattle Times and Newsday have filed a lawsuit accusing OpenAI and Microsoft of allegedly using their journalistic content to train artificial intelligence models. The lawsuit claims that the advent of AI could lead to "irreparable damage" to the news industry, describing generative AI as "a snake eating its own tail" that could "destroy" content producers. A Microsoft spokesperson expressed "surprise" but stated they were "happy to sit down and discuss solutions to such disputes." Previously, The New York Times sued OpenAI and its partner Microsoft in 2023, alleging copyright infringement.
