According to data from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the average daily number of meals provided by community kitchens in the Gaza Strip has decreased from 1.5 million in mid-March (supplied by 165 kitchens) to 698,000 in July (supplied by 102 kitchens). The sharp decline in meal provision is primarily due to severe funding shortages and rising operating costs, making it difficult for charities to obtain sufficient food and cooking supplies. This has led to many families struggling to access enough food, with adults even choosing to go hungry to ensure children have meals.
