OpenAI executives state "most significant progress" has been made with Samsung in joint production and research for next-generation AI chips. Analysts believe this collaboration could extend from HBM to foundry services.
Harrison Kim, General Manager of OpenAI Korea, stated at a press conference in Seoul on September 9th that this is OpenAI's clearest public statement to date regarding their chip collaboration. Analysts believe this statement may signal an expansion of Samsung's role in OpenAI's chip supply chain, moving beyond memory supply to include wafer foundry and advanced packaging services. Previously, Samsung had joined OpenAI's Stargate project as a strategic memory partner and supplied HBM4 high-bandwidth memory for OpenAI's first self-developed chip, Jalapeño.
