Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held phone calls on Thursday night with Pakistan's chief of defence forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan. This comes as Houthi fighters gained control of Yemen's Red Sea coast and Mayyun Island in the Bab al-Mandeb strait by Friday morning, pushing Brent crude past $107 a barrel on Friday due to fears over Saudi Arabia's key export routes. Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had earlier warned that a mutual defense pact with Saudi Arabia and Turkiye would be activated if fighting spilled further into the kingdom. However, analysts suggest Pakistan is now pursuing diplomacy, with its Foreign Office spokesperson stating the country would "continue to pursue dialogue and diplomacy for peace and stability in the broader region."
