Nikkei Asia reports that China's $11 billion Pinglu Canal project has completed its lock tests. The canal aims to connect China's southwestern region with the Beibu Gulf, providing inland provinces with access to the sea. The canal project, which took four years to complete, features locks capable of accommodating 5,000-metric-ton vessels. Its completion is seen as a strategic move by China to strengthen economic ties with Southeast Asia.
