The dispute between OpenAI and the mathematics community is escalating. Twenty-five Fields Medalists have signed an open letter stating that AI labs, in their race to solve famous mathematical problems, are threatening the intellectual work of mathematicians. Additionally, New York University professor Tristan Buckmaster accused OpenAI of pressuring him not to credit collaborators for Anthropic; OpenAI also withdrew its sponsorship of a mathematics event at Caltech after receiving criticism from researchers at the university.
