Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin has obtained a New York State trust license and received conditional approval for a federal license, placing its regulatory status between USDC and USDT.
RLUSD currently holds a state trust license issued by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), with segregated reserves. Its federal license received conditional approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) in December 2025, pending fulfillment of final conditions. In contrast, USDC received full, unconditional federal approval from the OCC on July 10, 2026, while Tether does not hold any U.S. licenses. RLUSD's circulating supply has exceeded $2 billion.
