Altman stated in an X post on Monday morning that he welcomes a federal framework to set consistent safety requirements for frontier AI, emphasizing that "no amount of US competitive pressure should be a reason to act recklessly." He warned of two "very bad" scenarios that could arise from AI development, including "losing future control over AI" and too much power concentrating in the hands of individuals or companies. Previously, Dario Amodei of Anthropic and Elon Musk had also warned the industry needs to slow down its development. US President Donald Trump, however, stated on Sunday that slowing down development is unnecessary and would jeopardize America's lead over China in AI. Affected by this news, AI-related stocks fell on Monday.
