Goldman Sachs, after visiting 15 Chinese optical communication companies, released a report upgrading its demand forecasts for 800G and above optical modules in 2027 and 2028 by 39% and 36% respectively, to 144 million and 171 million units. The report points out that the industry's true constraint has shifted from the demand side to the supply side. The scarcity of raw materials such as DSPs and lasers, along with leading manufacturers' capacity locking strategies, will be key variables determining the profit distribution landscape in 2027. Goldman Sachs estimates that the price of 1.6T optical modules will remain above $700, and the price reduction for 800G products in 2027 will only be in the single digits.
