Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on Saturday called for a slowdown in the development of the most powerful AI systems, warning that rapid advancements in AI capabilities could lead to AI controlling the entire internet within 6-12 months, resulting in hundreds of billions of dollars in losses. He also warned that China's lead in AI would pose a serious threat to the United States and the world, urging Washington to restrict China's access to advanced AI chips and chip manufacturing equipment. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Tesla CEO Elon Musk both supported Amodei's views. Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday rejected calls to slow down AI, emphasizing U.S. leadership in the AI field and stating that "whoever wins AI wins everything." Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jikun on Monday urged countries to adopt an "open, inclusive, and benevolent" attitude towards AI, and accused the U.S. of "inciting various threats, and engaging in confrontation and malicious competition which will only disrupt the global AI governance process."
