Salzgitter and Zelestra sign Germany's first hybrid solar-battery PPA
German steel manufacturer Salzgitter Flachstahl and renewable energy company Zelestra have signed a long-term hybrid solar-plus-battery storage power purchase agreement (PPA) in Germany. This marks the first hybrid solar-plus-storage PPA in Germany for both companies. The agreement will supply 158 GWh of green electricity annually for low-carbon steel production, supported by two new hybrid facilities providing 147 MW of solar capacity and 79 MW/237 MWh of battery storage. Salzgitter Flachstahl will also control the operation of the battery storage systems, which will be charged solely from surplus solar generation.
