The UN human rights chief, Volker Türk, stated on Tuesday that Israel's clearing of rubble in the Gaza Strip showed "disregard for the dead" and reiterated concerns about evidence of war crimes. He noted that numerous remains, including members of entire families, many of them women and children, have been found at sites destroyed by Israeli attacks. Since November 2025, the Palestinian Civil Defense has recovered over 630 bodies and remains from under destroyed buildings, with an estimated 8,000 more people still buried in the rubble. Türk warned that Israeli bombing and clearing operations have flattened large parts of Gaza.
