The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) today released statistics for payment cards issued in Hong Kong for the second quarter of 2026. The total number of credit cards in circulation reached 31.03 million, marking a 36.1% increase from the previous year. The total value of credit card transactions for Q2 2026 was HK$286.5 billion, up 6.8% from the same period in 2025, with HK$186.7 billion (65.2%) attributed to local retail spending. Meanwhile, the total value of debit card transactions decreased by 8.0% year-on-year to HK$61.1 billion.
