According to French media reports, on the night of September 19-20, four masked suspects broke into a family home in northern France, tying up and holding the family, including two children, hostage. The suspects targeted the father, who works in the cryptocurrency industry, forcing him to transfer cryptocurrencies worth approximately 40,000 euros. French prosecutors have launched an investigation into the case, which has been handed over to the judicial police department and the French Office for Combating Cybercrime (OFAC). Since early 2026, France has recorded 77 cases of cryptocurrency-related kidnapping, illegal detention, and extortion.
