However, China leads in AI research, making up over 27% of global AI publications in 2024, and is narrowing the gap with the US in advanced models, with the difference between Chinese AI models and cutting-edge US models now measured in months rather rather than years. Goldman Sachs projects that US hyperscale cloud service providers will spend approximately $764 billion in 2026, compared to $102 billion for China, but China's related spending is growing at a faster rate.
