According to the Wall Street Journal, citing anonymous U.S. officials, U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected Iran's proposal for a seven-day ceasefire to restore normal maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Friday that the proposal required the U.S. to accelerate the implementation of actions promised in the June 17 Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, including unfreezing $12 billion in Iranian assets, lifting oil sanctions, and ending the naval blockade of Iranian ports. Trump's rejection came hours after Iran presented a new roadmap. Furthermore, U.S. officials revealed that Trump has informed his aides that he expects to launch a new round of bombing operations against Iran after the U.S. midterm elections in November.
