The Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) 2.0 delivers a major upgrade to Chainlink's communication and bridging infrastructure, enabling different blockchains to interact and swap funds. The new software allows companies to add their own security checks to transfers, addressing vulnerabilities like those exploited in the $292 million Kelp DAO hack on LayerZero five months prior, which was attributed to reliance on a single verifier. Chainlink's own network of 16 independent node operators will continue to check every transfer, regardless of additional user-added verifiers. The upgrade also changes the role of Chainlink's previously promoted Risk Management Network.
