According to regulations from the Central Bank of Brazil's authorized institutions, starting October 1, the Council for Financial Activities Control (Coaf) must be notified when virtual assets worth at least $10,000 are sent to or received from self-custody wallets. This measure aims to increase visibility into large fund flows between regulated platforms and self-custody wallets, even if no suspicious activity is detected. Additionally, another resolution, BCB 584, will take effect on January 1, 2027, establishing preventive holding procedures for certain crypto asset transfers leaving regulated institutions, which may lead to delays. Chainalysis data shows Brazil is one of the world's largest crypto markets, with crypto activity totaling $252.5 billion.
