India is preparing to deploy $25 billion to support domestic deep tech startups, aiming to reduce reliance on cutting-edge foreign technology and catch up with the US and China in the global tech race. Rajat Tandon, President of the Indian Venture and Alternate Capital Association, stated that $11 billion will come from the government's R&D infrastructure fund, with the remainder matched by venture capital and private equity fund managers, plus an additional $3-4 billion. Deep tech encompasses fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, drones, and space technology. Experts note that this move is driven by escalating geopolitical tensions, making frontier technologies "critically important."
