Two Indian nationals were charged in Florida federal court on Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Justice for allegedly smuggling counterfeit Ozempic from China, a scheme that reportedly continued even after the Food and Drug Administration seized some of the fake drugs and issued a public warning in 2023. One of the men, Swapnadip Roy, has been extradited from Italy and appeared in Tampa. Roy and his accomplice, Vicky Ramancha, are charged with conspiracy to smuggle and defraud the United States, three counts of smuggling, and two counts of selling and possessing counterfeit drugs. If convicted, the two men face a maximum of 71 years in prison.
