Linear Fox founder Nathan Fargo has released a public jailbreak for the PS5, dubbed Relapse, which works on firmware 7.00 through 13.60 and requires only a DNS change. This comes weeks after Sony admitted in court that players do not own the digital games they purchase. The jailbreak, posted on X, allows users to run homebrew apps and game backups, but it is a tethered exploit with risks of system failures, data loss, or account bans. Consoles updated to Sony's 14.00 firmware, released September 16, are not compatible. Sony's court admission stems from a June class action alleging the "Buy Now" button misleads consumers, with Sony arguing it's "not plausible to allege that reasonable consumers believed they were obtaining 'ownership,'" citing license terms that state software is "licensed to you, not sold."
