HKMA: Exchange Fund's total assets decreased by HK$68.3 billion month-on-month to HK$4.3354 trillion as of end-August.
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today that as of August 31, 2026, the total assets of the Exchange Fund were HK$4,335.4 billion, a decrease of HK$68.3 billion from the end of July. Of this, foreign currency assets decreased by HK$68.0 billion, mainly due to withdrawals from fiscal reserves; Hong Kong dollar assets decreased by HK$0.3 billion, mainly due to the revaluation of Hong Kong equities at market prices. The monetary base was HK$2,080.2 billion, an increase of HK$0.1 billion month-on-month, primarily driven by an increase in the amortization of discounts on Exchange Fund Bills and Notes.
