The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced the results of its residential mortgage survey for August 2026. Mortgage applications decreased month-on-month by 8.3% to 8,446, while approved mortgage loans fell by 28.2% from July to HK$32.2 billion. Loans for primary market transactions dropped 31.8% to HK$9.1 billion, and secondary market transactions decreased 36.7% to HK$15.3 billion. Refinancing loans, however, increased by 6.8% to HK$7.8 billion. Mortgage loans drawn down during August rose 11.6% to HK$32.8 billion, and the outstanding value of mortgage loans increased 0.6% to HK$1,975.4 billion at the end of August. The mortgage delinquency ratio remained low at 0.11%.
