UK-listed companies have become targets for foreign buyers, with public M&A deals reaching £75 billion in the first three quarters, and hostile takeovers quadrupling.
UK-listed companies are attracting a surge of foreign buyers due to persistently low valuations. Analysis by White & Case shows that by the end of Q3, the value of public M&A deals in the UK reached £75 billion (approximately $99 billion), nearly double the £38.2 billion recorded for the whole of 2025. Overseas capital has been the primary driver, with international investors participating in 72% of the deal volume and 94% of the total value. The number of hostile takeovers has also quadrupled this year, rising from 1 in 2025 to 4, reflecting overseas buyers' familiarity with the UK regulatory environment and their willingness to leverage public pressure to close deals.
