Russian dissident Garry Kasparov says US warned him about his safety.
Russian dissident and former world chess champion Garry Kasparov stated that U.S. and Lithuanian security services have warned him about threats to his life. This follows the U.S. Department of Justice's unsealing of an indictment earlier this month, accusing five individuals allegedly hired by the Kremlin of plotting to attack and murder Russian dissidents in multiple countries, including the United States. Kasparov has been living in exile in the U.S. since 2013, was designated a foreign agent by Russia in 2022, and was added to Russia's list of terrorists and extremists in 2024. He stated that he and his family will not be truly safe as long as Russian President Vladimir Putin remains in power.
