A new report from cybersecurity firm Proofpoint, released on Thursday, reveals that a China-aligned hacking group, TA419, has been impersonating prominent AI experts, including former White House AI official Lynne Edwards Parker, to target US policy experts. The hackers, active since April 2025, sent deceptive emails, such as invitations to join an “AI Policy Advisory Committee,” to individuals at think tanks, defense contractors, universities, and law firms in the US and Japan. Upon response, targets were directed to fake login pages designed to steal their credentials.
