Google faces over $3.2 billion ad tech monopoly claim, New York court rules publishers can proceed with jury trial
A New York federal court ruled late Wednesday that several major publishers could seek over $3.2 billion in damages from Google for monopolizing the ad tech market, and allowed jury trial proceedings related to Google's AdX ad exchange platform to move forward. Among them, a class action representing approximately 5,000 publishers can seek about $1.7 billion in damages; USA Today Co., the parent company of USA Today, and the UK's Daily Mail General and Trust Plc were each allowed to independently pursue approximately $900 million and $600 million, respectively. This case is highly related to the U.S. Department of Justice's previous antitrust lawsuit against Google over ad tech in Virginia, where a Virginia federal court ruled last month that Google illegally monopolized two ad tech markets. Google closed down 1.7% on Thursday.
