For the first time, Latin America views China as a more positive global influence than the United States, according to the 2026 Latinobarometro annual survey released on Friday. The survey found that 65% of respondents across 17 countries viewed China as a positive global influence, compared to 57% for the U.S. Support for China's influence has risen significantly since 2020, from 48% to 65%, while U.S. support declined from 60% to 57% over the same period. Despite the shift in perceptions of global influence, the survey also indicated that the U.S. still leads China in overall favorability, with 63% favorability for the U.S. compared to 58% for China.
