On October 6, U.S. time, Google and Constellation Energy, the largest nuclear power operator in the United States, announced a long-term power purchase agreement totaling 3,590 megawatts. This includes a 20-year nuclear power purchase contract that will add 890 megawatts of clean baseload power to the PJM grid through upgrades to existing reactors. Constellation will invest over $4.3 billion to upgrade 11 nuclear reactors in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, with the first upgraded unit expected to supply power to the grid in 2028.

The agreement also includes a 15-year power supply agreement covering an additional 2,700 megawatts of Constellation's generation assets. This move aims to address the surge in power demand and soaring electricity prices on the PJM grid due to data center expansion. Furthermore, the two companies signed a five-year technology cooperation agreement, under which Constellation will fully deploy Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise's intelligent agent workflows in its core operational processes, covering accelerated capacity deployment, power generation asset optimization, and critical infrastructure security protection. Following the announcement, Constellation's stock price closed up over 12%.
